Adam, I believe you lost the intention of why this statement was singled out. It is a sample of the typical statements made by fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I have the same concerns about this perspective that Zack expresses.
It baffles me that Christians make statements such as this. I am amazed daily by church members that still have a narrow minded view of the intentions of Jesus. Jesus preached a "Social Gospel", not the anti-immigration, hated filled tirades of talk radio, statements made that degrade others and pastors that seem to believe that Rush Limbaugh is an expert on what they should preach about in their sermons.
Zack, thanks for the article in Sojourners, it hit home with my frustrations with fellow believers. I believe that we lost the true intention of God about our fellow men.

Comment on What’s up with the Chi-Rho tattoos? by Esme

After jesus was resurrected, and called Christ, or kristos in Greek, people used the chi-rho-iota as a monogram for Christ because chi and rho are the first letters in kristos, and iota is the first letter in savior. Constantine was the emperor that converted the Roman Empire to Catholicism. Constantine was is favour of Catholicism before Maxentius, an opposing ruler who did not have the respect of his own people, mobilized his troops against Constantine. Before the battle occurred, Constantine had a dream that he had defeated Maxentius. After Constantine had killed this tyrant, the clouds opened up in the form of of the symbol chi-rho-iota, leading him to believe that that only through Christ could he win the battle against Maxentius. In 312, after Constantine defeated Maxentius, he converted the whole of the Roman Empire to Catholicism. Chi- rho-iota was not in any way created by Constantine, in was simply made famous by him because of a dream that he had. It was used by early Catholics to show, amoungst each other, their belief in Christ, but also keeping their religion secret from pagan rulers before Constantine. It was not a military standard....
AND wikipedia is a terrible source, never use it. There are false facts on a miltitude of their pages because random, uneducated people can post "facts" and the pages are not edited very often.

Congrats on the arrival of your little beauty, Esther!

I'm catching up on the work you've been doing in "Jesusland." Great stuff.

It's not surprising that Zerobama bailed out his buddies. It was financial institutions, early on, that financed his campaign. I hope you didn't fall for that bunk about his campaign being "financed" by the "little" donations. I found you through TechPresident (remembered your name from way back in the day), after reading a great post there on the myths vs the reality of the Trojan Ass in the White House, whose secondary agenda of ruining the Dem brand is also going swimmingly.

I'm disappointed that it's possible to just totally erase a wikipedia article, without there even being a copy in the history section.

Wow! Great read! Very engaging and thrilling for me--as I attend New City whenever I get the chance. Your visit happened before my time there, but it sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for stopping by, and sharing your thoughts! =)
