Homer’s Coffee House, Overland Park, KS November 22, 2008

Dispatch from the alternate universe. After trying out the new Indian Restaurant that’s getting raves, we stopped by a Christian Coffee house we’d heard about, Homer’s Coffee House. I’ve been getting some good writing done here.
At first glance, it looks like any other coffee house. But look a little closer and you’ll notice that the 12 year old kid on the couch is memorizing Bible verses. A couple of men sitting alone are studying Bibles. I’m guessing the big group of women with note pads out are some kind of church small group.
Anyways, it’s a great coffee house. Comfy, clean, good coffee and not playing any bad music.

It’s always good to see the Church doing things well. Too often “good enough” is the mantra.
So, should we all go there instead of Starbucks? Hehe..
Do you think that “Christian Social Justice Movement” would be a good term for this movement? Or is there some other term?
I am a disillusioned former conservative pastor who totally agrees with your assessment of Focus on the Family. FoF is, unfortunately, somewhat representative of the conservative with of the Christian community. It would be helpful to remember the Great Command which is found in the Old testament 18 times and the New Testament 5 times and which Jesus specifically affirms in Matthew 22:37-40:
37Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

“Is this blog dead forever?” — Let’s hope not. Zack, where in the world are you?
