I’ll throw in another comment from the other side. Though I’m not Christian, I’m pleased to see that Obama was successful in speaking to the concerns of so many religious Christians. I hope that this will be a first step towards making religious faith something that once again informs people’s politics, rather than being a wedge issue used mindlessly to rally people or instill fear or rage in them. Then we can have the policy discussions that we need to have, possibly without so much intractability.
